Pictured in the photo on the left are all of the brass cutters
we manufacture. They are from left to right, 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 1" in diameter. The brass cutters all have a drill bit that drills a hole in the center of the plug to make shaping easy, and provides the ideal place to put the
hook. They are used for making poppers for fresh and saltwater fish. The 1/4", 3/8",1/2" & 3/4" retail for $20.00 each. If ordering 5 or more cutters or trout kits in any combination, these cutters are $15.00 each. The 1" cutters retail for $25.00 or $18 if the volume discount applies. |
| Our shaping tools come in three sizes. The larger shaping tools come in a standard length size and a long shaft size for either standard or pencil poppers. The smaller shaping tool comes with the standard 3/4" length center shaft for "standard" size poppers. Any of the shaping tools are priced at $7.50. They all work with a "Dremel" type rotary tool for shaping the foam plugs. | ![]() |

To the left are pictured some of the poppers possible with the
brass cutters and the dense foam we sell. The white foam is easily colored with felt tipped markers; The rubber legged poppers seem to be a favorite of the bass and bluegill fishermen. The pencil poppers are great for river Smallmouth and saltwater fish such as Blues and Stripers. For better casting, better stability of the popper on the water, and to improve hook gap, you may want to flatten the bottom of the popper by holding the body against a belt sander or sanding disk, before sliding the popper body on to the hook shank. A thumb placed firmly on top of the body as the bottom is sanded flat, keeps the body from turning on the mandrel inserted through the center of the body and ruining the desired profile. |
| The little stainless cutters, sold in what we call the Trout Kit, allow you to make a variety of permanently buoyant flies commonly used for trout, although the damselflies and hoppers also work very well for Bass. Tails on the mayflies can be sewn through the foam at a 45° angle after inserting the desired tailing material in the needle eye with a needle threader. Knotted rubber leg material (two strands for the top of the leg, and one strand below the "knee") makes a better hopper leg than the knotted feather fibers many of us struggled with for years, and is simple to handle. A little Super Glue ® gel keeps the "knee" knot knotted for the life of the fly. |

The trout kit comes with six blocks of foam and three stainless cutters. with their own individual cases. The cutter sizes are 3/32", 9/64", and 3/16" for forming everything from the smallest of ants to large hoppers and dragonflies. Trout kits retail for $35.00 or $25.00 if volume discount described above applies. |
| We presently handle 10 solid colors of foam, which is a very dense
EVA material also known as sandal foam. The colors are as follows: white, black, blue, yellow, orange, chartreuse, brown, purple, red, and olive. We also handle three varieties of striped foam, that is very nice, with narrow bands of color only
1/8" wide. We carry a red and white stripe, a blue and white stripe and a tri-color stripe with 1/8" layers of yellow, black, and olive foam for those froggy colored poppers every Bass fisherman wants. Our blocks of foam are four inches long, two inches wide, and one and a quarter inches thick. Solid color foam blocks are $1.50 each. Striped blocks are $2.00 each. |
