How to Save the Password

In order to set up Dial up Networking to save your password, Client for Microsoft Windows must be installed.  These directions apply if the 'save password' box is 'greyed out'

  • Step 1: Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel
  • Step 2: Click on Network, click the Add button
  • Step 3: Select Client from the list, click Add
  • Step 4: Select Microsoft from the Manufacturer list and then select Client for Microsoft Networks, Click ok. (it may prompt you for the Windows CD ROM, so be prepared)
  • Step 5: Click on the Identification Tab at the top, then click OK.
  • Finish: Follow the prompts to reboot, after booting it may prompt you to log onto Windows, if so, type in your username and leave the password blank.  The next time you go to connect the 'Save Password' box should be available to be checked.*

*If it's still not working, or the Client was already installed, you may need to enable user profiles, go back to your control panel and go into Passwords, click on User Profiles and mark the second option: Users can customize.....etc.   Click ok and reboot Windows.**

**If it's still not working beyond that, you may have a corrupt .pwl list.  Go to start, find, files or folders.  Under Named: type in *.pwl; under Look in: it should be C:, then click find.  This will list all your password files, delete any that come up and reboot windows.

IMPORTANT: Deleting these files will make it so you have to reinput *any* password that may have been previously saved on your computer, so make sure you know your passwords.
