Uploading with the Web Publishing Wizard

The Web Publishing Wizard from Microsoft is convenient for publishing files from your PC to your Web site. You can choose to upload an entire folder (directory) from your system, or just a file if you like. However, unlike an FTP program, the Web Publishing Wizard does not offer the ability to see a clear listing of what files are on the JVLNET server side as well as your own hard drive. We highly recommend the use of an FTP program such as WS_ftp, which can be downloaded here..

Uploading
In order to upload Web pages with the Web Publishing Wizard, follow the instructions shown below.

Start up the Web Publishing Wizard program (usually found in the Internet Explorer program menu).

  1. Enter the file you want to upload (as in our example below, if you are uploading your homepage, name it index.htm) in File or folder name.
  2. Instead of entering the file you want to upload, click Browse Files... to find it on your system.
  3. If you want to upload all the files in a directory, enter the directory path in File or folder name.

http://www.jvlnet.com/~username/the file's name

Example
your username = "bob" the file's name = "fred.htm" Enter: http://www.jvlnet.com/~bob/fred.htm

Making Your Homepage
When you create your Web site, be sure to name your homepage index.html. This will make your homepage address:

http://www.jvlnet.com/~your username

your username = "bob" Your homepage address: http://www.jvlnet.com/~bob

If you don't name your homepage index.html, typing in your Web address will not automatically bring up your homepage.
