What is Spam?
Officially known as Unsolicited Commercial Email, "spamming" (in email and Internet terms) means to receive an unsolicited email message. Most often the messages are attempting to sell a questionable product such as "get rich" ideas and health potions. The spam is usually sent to a wide audience, thus creating a "log jam" for Internet service providers (ISP). Ultimately, the practice of spamming consumes the resources of the ISPs, it overwhelms the consumer's electronic mail box and it diminishes the effectiveness of email as a communication tool.

Preventing spam

NEVER reply to a spam message. If you do, you are simply confirming to the spammer that your email address is valid. More spam is sure to follow. NEVER call any phone numbers included in a spam message. These phone calls could be re-routed overseas resulting in substantial phone charges.

Next, report the abuse incident to JVLNET. Make sure you include the full headers of the original message and email it directly to abuse@jvlnet.com .
