Windows Millennium Edition (ME)
What
You Need to Get Started
- Your JVLNET username and password.
- Your local JVLNET dialup
number.
- Your computer - properly connected to a phone line.
Step 1:
Creating the Basic Connection
From the main
Windows ME Desktop, click on the Start button, select Settings,
and click on Dial Up Networking. Click HERE

Once the Dial
Up Networking window appears, you will see one of two things
- you will either have an icon labeled Make New Connection
or you will have a window welcoming you to Dial Up Networking.
If you have the welcome message, click the button that says Next.
Otherwise, double click on the icon labeled Make New Connection.

Step 2:
Entering Critical Information
Name the computer
you are dialing JVLNET. Make sure the correct modem is listed
and then click on Next. Click HERE

If you see
Standard Modem listed, contact your computer manufacturer
for help installing the correct modem.
Type in your
local JVLNET
Dialup Number. When entering the phone number, be sure to make
sure the area code is blank! Click HERE

Click Next,
then click Finish.
It is important
that you verify with the operator that the number is indeed local
for you. JVLNET is not responsible for any long distance charges
you incur with using the service.
Step 3:
Dial Up Properties
Now you should
see a new icon labeled JVLNET. Click once with the RIGHT
mouse button on the JVLNET icon and select Properties
from the menu that appears.

4: Network Settings
Once in the Properties window, click
on the Network tab at the top of the screen. On the Network window,
verify that the only two boxes checked are Enable Software Compression
and TCP/IP.

Step 5:
TCP/IP Settings
Click on the
TCP/IP Settings button, located in the lower right hand corner
of the Network window. At the top, Server Assigned IP Address
should be marked, in the middle, mark Specify Name Server Addresses,
this will allow you to fill in the primary and secondary DNS: 156.46.57.10
and 156.46.57.20.

Continue clicking
on the OK buttons until you are back to the Dialup Networking window.
Step 6:
Creating a Shortcut and Getting Connected
In the Dial
Up Networking window, right click on the JVLNET Icon.
Select Create Shortcut, click Yes on the dialog box
that comes up. This will place a shortcut to JVLNET icon on your
desktop.
To connect,
open the shortcut to JVLNET icon, enter in your username
and password (using all lower case letters) and click on
Connect.
