JVLNET Settings

What You Need to Get Started

Your JVLNET software (Windows 3.1 compatible CD or disk).
Your JVLNET username and password.
Your JVLNET local access number.

Before You Begin

Insert the JVLNET Total Internet CD into your CD-ROM drive or the Internet disk into your disk drive.

In your Program Manager, go to File then choose the Run option.

Type the following in the Command Line:

d:\win31\Eng\iesetup.exe then click on OK
*Where ‘d’ is the letter of your CD-ROM Drive.
If your CD-Rom drive uses a different letter, enter that letter instead

Accept the Microsoft Licensing Agreement that appears below to continue.


Step 1: Selecting a directory

 1) Select the type of installation you would like. In most cases, the Complete choice should be used. Custom can be used if you are an experienced want to customize your options.

2) The bottom of the screen will show the directory where the program is being installed. Make a note of it as you may need it later. You can change the directory if you choose, but the default should be fine. 

3) If you get a message that says "an existing version of Winsock.dll has been detected…" just click OK. If the screen shown at the right appears again, choose the installation option you want again to continue.


Step 2: Adding a Program Group

  

1) Once the first step of the installation process is finished, it will ask you which Program Group you wish to add it to. The default directory should be fine, but you may choose a different one if you would like. Click OK to continue with the installation.

 


Step 3: Setting up your modem

 1) Now you should get a screen labeled Install New Modem. Click on Next to let Windows attempt to detect your modem. If it does not properly detect the modem, follow the onscreen instructions to manually select your modem from a list.

2) Once the modem is properly detected, you should get a message indicating Modem has been setup successfully. Now you’re nearly ready…


Step 4: Rebooting your system

 1) To continue with the setup process, the system will need to reboot. Press OK to restart your computer and continue with the setup. (Note: You may need to manually exit Windows, then turn off your computer. Wait 30 seconds and restart)


Step 5: Getting on the Internet

 
1) After rebooting, click on the Get on the Internet icon to continue (you will need your JVLNET username and password, as well as your local access number during the next portion of the setup).

 


Step 6: Using the Internet Setup Wizard

1) Click Finish to go through the Internet Setup Wizard set up your dialer (local access number) and email (username and password) settings.

 2) The Set Up Wizard will ask which Program Group you want to put the dialer into. Go with the same one you chose in Step 2 (typically Microsoft Internet Explorer group).

3) You should get a You are ready to connect message. Click on OK to continue.

 4) Next click on the "Connect to JVLNET" icon and this screen will appear.

5) Enter your username (lower case letters) (Do not put @jvlnet.com at the end of your username)

6) Next enter you password (lower case).

7) Enter your JVLNET local access number.

8) Click on Connect and your computer should dial up the Internet. The Internet Explorer browser will start up once the connection is made. You’re on the net! 

***Note: If you get connected but have trouble bringing up pages ("No DNS entry found" or similar message), you may need to enter the DNS numbers by choosing Properties (from the screen shown at right) and then the TCP/IP tab. In the Domain Name Service area, enter the following in place of the two lines that have 0.0.0.0 for the DNS numbers:

Primary DNS is: 156.46.57.10

Secondary DNS: 156.46.57.20

Common Questions:

  1. How do I set up the Internet Mail program?

First, double click on the Internet Mail icon within the Program Group created for your Internet account.

    A screen will pop up asking for Mail Login info. For username, enter your email name without the "@jvlnet" portion. (For example: if your email address is johndoe@jvlnet, enter "johndoe" in lower case). Enter your email password (also in lower case) and then click OK.

    You will then get a window to start the Internet Mail Configuration wizard. Here is the information you will need for the screens that will follow:

    Name: (enter your real name or whatever you wish here)

    Email Address:
    Enter your actual email address, such as johndoe@jvlnet.com

    Incoming (Pop 3) Server:
    mail.jvlnet.com

    Outgoing (SMTP) Server:
    mail.jvlnet.com

    Email Account:
    johndoe (if, for example, you had the johndoe@jvlnet.com address)

    Password:
    (enter your email password here, in lower case)

2. How do I get my 2nd and 3rd email accounts?

Microsoft’s Internet Mail does not support multiple email boxes. You will need to go to our Web Site form to get information on getting additional email programs to use for your 2nd and 3rd email accounts.

Fill out our form and the account(s) will be set up within 24 hours of your request.

3. How do I close down my connection to the Internet when I'm finished?

You can find the Connection window minimized behind your Program Manager window. Minimize the Program Manager, double click on the Connect to JVLNET icon (minimized in the background), and choose disconnect. It will take just a few seconds for your computer to disconnect..
