Windows 2000
What
You Need to Get Started
- Your JVLNET username
and password.
- Your local JVLNET dialup
number.
- Your computer - properly
connected to a phone line.
Step 1:
Open "My Network Places"
On your desktop is an icon labeled My Network Places. Double
click with the left mouse button on this icon. A new window will
appear. In this window, on the left-hand side, will be a link titled
Network and Dialup Connections. Click this link and you should
see a new icon titled Make New Connection.
Step 2:
Make a New Connection
Double click on the Make New Connection
icon and the Network Connection Wizard will start. Click
next to continue.

On the next
screen to appear, select Dial Up To The Internet and click
next. This will start the Internet Connection Wizard.

Step 3:
The Internet Connection Wizard
On the first screen in the Internet Connection Wizard, select the
3rd option - I want to setup my internet connection manually,
and then click next.

You will then be asked how you connect to the internet. Select Phone
Line and click on next.

The next screen asks you to enter the telephone number of the computer
you will be dialing. Type in your JVLNET
Telephone Number (make sure to leave the Area Code BLANK!)
and click the Advanced button.

Step
4: Dial Up Properties
In the new Properties window, verify that the Connection Type
is set to PPP (Point to Point Protocol) and that the Logon
Procedure is set to None.

At the top of this window, click on the Addresses tab. Once on
the Addresses screen, make sure that IP Address is set to
Internet Service Provider Automatically Provides One. The
bottom portion of this window contains the DNS Server Addresses.
Make sure that Always Use the Following is selected and enter
the following numbers:
Primary DNS - 156.46.57.10
Secondary DNS - 156.46.57.20

Click on OK and then click on Next.
You will now be asked to enter your JVLNET username
and password in the specified boxes. Make sure you use only
lowercase letters!

When asked to title the connection, type in JVLNET.
Click on Next. You will be asked if you wish to setup your
internet mail at this time. If you have already setup mail on your
computer, select NO and enjoy your new internet connection.
However, if you have not yet setup your computer to receive your
email, please select YES and continue reading!
Step 5:
Internet Mail Configuration
Assuming you've chosen YES and
gone into the internet mail configuration, you will be presented
with a screen that asks if you would like to use an existing or
create a new mail account. Select Create a New Mail Account
and click next.

When it asks you to enter a Display
Name, enter your name and click next.

You will then be asked to enter your
E-Mail Address. Your E-Mail Address is username@jvlnet.com.
Once your email address is correctly typed in, click next
(ex:
if your name is John Doe, and your username is jdoe, your email
address would be jdoe@jvlnet.com)

The next screen you will see asks you
to specify the names of the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP)
mail servers. The very top field should be set to POP3 (My
incoming mail server is a POP3 server). For both incoming
and outgoing mail server (POP3 and SMTP) fields, enter mail.jvlnet.com
(make sure to use all lowercase letters!) and then click next.
The next screen asks for your account
name and password. The account name is your JVLNET
Username (ex: if your name is John Doe, your username would
be jdoe). Use the same password that you used previously
in step 4 of these instructions.

You will then be given a button that
says finish. Click that button and setup is complete! Close
any windows you have open and double click on the icon labeled
Internet Explorer. This automatically starts your dial-up connection
window. Click the Connect button and once you connect have
fun surfing! To check your email start a program named Outlook
Express.
Special
Note to users who are also connected to a Local Area Network (LAN)
If your computer is also connected to a LAN and you receive internet
access via your LAN, you will want to consult with your network
administrator prior to establishing a JVLNET Dialup Connection on
your computer, as the new dialup connection may override some network
settings!
