Dial Up Configuration
Macintosh

MacTCP

JVLNET Settings

If you have a Macintosh that is not a Power PC, it is important to make sure that your system is set up properly with MacTCP. If you DO have a Power PC click here to get TCP/IP configuration instructions.

To bring up the MacTCP screen (shown below), go to the Control Panels folder in your System folder.

On the MacTCP screen, if the Config PPP software is properly installed, the PPP icon will be highlighted (if FreePPP software is being used, the FreePPP icon will be highlighted instead, as shown in the screen shot). If more than one icon is highlighted, this means there is a conflict between multiple TCP/IP translators.

Click More... to continue.

In the screen pictured below, do the following:

  1. Under Obtain Address, select Server.
  2. The IP Address information is configured by JVLNET servers and should match that in the screen below.
  3. The Routing Information is configured by JVLNET servers and should match that in the screen below.
  4. Under Domain Name Server Information the first Domain field should be jvlnet.com, the first IP Address field should be 156.46.57.10, and the first Default button SHOULD be selected. The second Domain field should be jvlnet.com, the second IP Address field should be 156.46.57.20, and the Default button should NOT be selected.

Click OK.

Configuring TCP/IP -- for Power PCs

If you are using a PowerPC, your system software has most likely been bundled with Open Transport (TCP/IP). There have been various releases of TCP/IP by Apple. These configuration instructions may not be an exact reflection of the version you are using.

To bring up the TCP/IP screen (shown below), go to the Control Panels folder in your System folder and double click on the TCP/IP Control Panel. The settings shown below are for FreePPP users. If you are using ConfigPPP, make sure Connect via is set to MacPPP. Click here for ConfigPPP instructions.

  1. For Connect via, select FreePPP.
  2. Under Setup, for Configure, select Using PPP Server.
  3. Do not enter an IP Address, Subnet mask, or Router address. That information will automatically appear when you select PPP.
  4. The Name server addr should be the following DNS numbers:

156.46.57.10
156.46.57.20

5. Search domain can be left blank.
